The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) heard from thousands of concerned citizens about the need to update the 2020-2025 U.S. Dietary Guidelines on topics where the science has evolved, particularly on saturated fats and low-carbohydrate diets. USDA’s public comment period ended on Friday, and the results demonstrate a widespread belief that the Guidelines need to be changed in order to reflect the best and most current science. Of the 5,944 comments posted thus far:
1,145 mention "saturated" as in "saturated fats"
1,288 mention "low-carb"
That’s right: nearly half of all comments addressed our key topics!
Thanks to all who contributed to this unprecedented opportunity to stand up for good science.

We also want to thank our board member, Dr. Mark Hyman, who explained the problems with the Dietary Guidelines on CBS This Morning, and David Perlmutter, who hosted our Executive Director, Nina Teicholz, for a discussion on Facebook Live.
